its Assessment Roots
For us it’s not so much a change as
a return to our roots...
In the early 1990s, Pedagogue Solutions
created one of the very first electronic assessment
systems. We called this DOS-based product PedagogueTesting,
and it was an immediate success. During this time we
also entered the related world of eLearning.
Over the years being in two businesses
simultaneously led to a drain on resources, so this
past fall we made the decision to exit the eLearning
business entirely and focus all of our resources on

Everyone knows what a multiple-choice
question looks like, but not everyone knows how to name
the parts. The part that contains the question is called
the stem. The choices from which the student chooses
are called the choices. The choice that is correct is
called the correct answer (or best response) and the
incorrect choices are called the distractors.
How well you write the distractors controls
the difficulty of the question. If you have written
the distractors properly (i.e. as plausible choices—see
full article) this gives you a lot of information about
where your students have misconceptions about the material—information
